Reciprocal Borrowing
Milton Public Library recognizes and accepts library cards from all Halton Public Libraries (Halton Hills, Oakville, and Burlington), as well as, from Hamilton Public Library, Guelph Public Library and Wellington County Library
Who can register?
Residents of Halton Hills, Oakville, or Burlington
Residents of Halton Hills (Acton, Georgetown, and rural areas), Oakville, Burlington, Guelph or Wellington County must present their library card from their municipality’s library, in addition to their name and address identification.
Wellington County Library members
Wellington County Library members (now including Guelph Public Library) may borrow Milton Public Library items upon presentation of their Wellington County Library card and personal identification.
Hamilton Public Library members
Hamilton residents must present their Hamilton Public Library card and address identification to borrow items. Our borrowing agreement limits these cards to eight items and two holds
Expanded Digital Borrowing with Partner Libraries
In addition to physical items, cardholders can access eBooks and eAudiobooks from our partner libraries through OverDrive and the Libby app.
Partner libraries include:
- Burlington, Hamilton, Kingston Frontenac, London, Mississauga, and Ottawa Public Libraries.

With a Reciprocal Borrowing membership, you can:

- Use library spaces
- Participate in programs
Some of our key e-resources, such as certain e-books, audiobooks, and databases, will no longer be available to reciprocal borrowers under the updated agreement.
To renew your membership, visit any MPL branch and bring your home library card. Your home library card will be linked to your MPL account for continued service.
New membership and renewal must be completed in person at an MPL branch with a valid home library card.
You will need to obtain a replacement card from your home library before renewing your MPL membership.
Yes! You may still have access to digital collections through your home library. We encourage you to check with them for details on available e-resources.
