Rural and Homebound Services
Milton Public Library offers special services to patrons if they’re unable to visit the library due to illness or disability. These patrons can use homebound services to receive a free monthly delivery.
Additionally, free library services are also available for patrons residing in Ward Three or the rural areas of Ward One.
Rural Library Services
Do you live in Ward Three or the rural areas of Ward One? Then this service may be for you!
- Patrons must have a valid Library Card. You can register as a Library member by visiting any of the locations or signing-up for an e-card. Please refer to the Join the Library webpage for more information.
- Once registered as a Library member, please email illo@beinspired.ca to have your account designated for Rural Services. Based on your address, Library staff will determine your eligibility and send you a confirmation email.
- To be eligible, patrons must be able to access the Milton Public Library catalogue.
- Search the catalogue, and place a hold on the item you would like to borrow.
- When it is available, we will mail the book to you.
- When you are finished, re-use the envelope and, using the return label that will be provided, mail it back to the Library.
- You need to have Internet access and an email account to participate.

- We will mail only one book at a time (unless they are really tiny!) and ask that you package them the same way when you return them.
- We are limiting the service to print material for now – no A/V.
- Materials from other libraries brought in by interlibrary loan will still need to be picked up at the Milton library.
- If you have a “B” box, the package should fit in it. If, for some reason, the package is not delivered, you may have to pick it up at the Post Office. Your pickup location is usually still closer than the library.
Homebound Services
Homebound is a free and convenient service that supplies library materials to people who are unable to come into the library.
Who Can Join?
You must be:
- A Milton resident with an active Milton Public Library card
- Homebound for three months or longer due to age, illness, or disability
- Have a volunteer or visitor come regularly to your home (ie: a relative or neighbour, church visitors, Allendale volunteers, Halton Helping Hands representative)
How it Works?
Please fill out the form below. Once submitted and received, MPL staff will contact you for confirmation and then sign all items out to your account for a three-week loan period for your volunteer to pick up and deliver to you.

Homebound is a free and convenient service that supplies library materials to people who are unable to come into the library.
This service is available for all ages and is provided free. Long term, short term and seasonal services are available.
Persons of all ages confined at home, the hospital or other institution are eligible for Homebound Services.
Library employees select materials for you based on your profile, and/or you may place holds on items through the Library website/Library App.

Homebound residents can choose from a number of different formats: audio books, large and regular print books. The library also carries materials in English and French and other world languages.
