Something new is taking shape at Beaty

We’re creating the Innovation Hive Makerspace and a renewed Children’s area at Beaty Branch.

Renovation work will begin this fall and continue into early 2027. During construction, there will be temporary changes to some areas and services, including a short full-branch closure.

This page will be the main source for renovation updates, important dates and service information throughout the project.

What’s Coming to Beaty

Innovation Hive Makerspace

  • The new Innovation Hive will provide a dedicated space for creativity, making and technology learning.
  • A soft opening is planned for March 2027. Operating hours and the official opening date will be announced at a later date.
  • The last day to access the lounge will be Saturday, October 24, 2026.
  • Equipment featured in the Makerspace will include:
    • Vinyl printer and cutter
    • 3D Printer
    • Laser Cutter
    • Embroidery Machine
    • Sewing Machines
    • Audio Sound Booth
    • Mac Computers with Editing Software
    • Large Format Printer
    • And much more!

     

Renewed Children’s Area

  • The Children’s area will be refreshed as part of the renovation, which will include new flooring, expanded collection space, and new activity stations for families to connect and learn
  • The Children’s area will close after Saturday, October 17, while a reduced Children’s  collection is moved to a temporary location within the branch.
  • From October 18–20, the Children’s collection will be temporarily unavailable while materials and shelving are relocated.
  • The renewed Children’s area is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, February 3, 2027.

  • 24/7 book returns available at Main Library and Sherwood Branch

Full Branch Closure

October 27–November 10

Beaty Branch will be fully closed for regular library services from Tuesday, October 27 through Tuesday, November 10.

Beaty Branch will reopen with limited services on Wednesday, November 11.

Limited Services

November 11–February 2

Beaty Branch will reopen on November 11 while renovation work continues.

During the Limited Services period, Beaty Branch will provide:

  • Customer Service
  • Access to the full collection, with the exception of the reduced Children’s collection
  • Printing Services
  • Limited study and work space
  • Computer and Wifi Access

  • Quiet Study Room
  • Group Study Room
  • Programming
  • Children’s Activity Area

FAQs

This project supports priorities identified in MPL’s Strategic Master Plan, including creating a dedicated makerspace and expanding access to technology. It also includes planned flooring replacement and other improvements to meet community needs.

The closure will allow crews to install a protective wall between the construction area and the rest of the branch and carry out major demolition work.

Beaty Branch will close for regular library service from October 27 through November 10, 2026. Limited services resume on November 11.

The last day to access the existing children’s area will be Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Returns will be unavailable at Beaty Branch during the full closure from October 27 to November 10. During this time, materials can be returned at Main Library or Sherwood Branch. Returns at Beaty Branch will resume on November 11 when the branch reopens with limited services.

A reduced children’s collection will be available in a temporary location within Beaty Branch during construction, except from October 18–20, when materials are being relocated, and during the full branch closure from October 27–November 10.

Hold pickup at Beaty Branch will be unavailable during the full closure. Beaty’s hold service will resume on November 11 when the branch reopens with limited services.

Yes. MPL’s online collections and digital services will remain available throughout the renovation and full closure. During the full closure, patrons can also visit Main Library or Sherwood Branch for in-person services.

Specific program relocations have not yet been confirmed. Any changes to program locations, dates or availability will be posted on the renovation webpage and individual program listings as details are finalized.

Returns will be unavailable at Beaty Branch during the full closure from October 27 to November 10. During this time, materials can be returned at Main Library or Sherwood Branch. Returns at Beaty will resume on November 11 when the branch reopens with limited services.

Beaty Branch is scheduled to reopen with limited services on November 11. Updates will be shared through the MPL website, email, social media, branch signage and other library channels.

Beaty programs have been relocated to Main Library and Sherwood Branch during construction. The Group Study Room will not be available for reservations, and the Quiet Study Room will be closed. Limited study space will be available at Beaty during the limited-services period.

Hold service at Beaty Branch will be temporarily paused ahead of the closure and will resume when the branch reopens with limited services on November 11.
